I saw the film Echotone last night, and I have to say it was the best movie on the Austin music scene I've ever seen. It also lays out most of the problems facing any musician anywhere. In effect, it was accidentally a 90 minute argument for Patronism's model. It follows several local bands, developers, city council, and other parties with vested interests and lays out a really compelling storyline.
I almost jumped out of my seat. My heart was breaking knowing we could help these artists if they had only known we were here. At the exact same time they were filming it, I was tinkering with the first iteration of Patronism on the back end of my website. At the end of the movie, they lay out best practices for bands and fans to save music. Patronism does almost every single one of them in one place.
If you are in Austin, go see this movie, and tell your friends to see it, too.
