Intro Message from Dave Insley
Thanks for previewing my Patronism site! This is the place where I tell you the backstories about the songs, share with you rare, unreleased, unusual and otherwise unavailable material from my vaults, and keep you "in the loop" on my ongoing creative process. Patronism is the hip new way to connect with the artists you love, directly empowering them to continue their work.
You can participate by picking the level of support that suits your budget - you pick the amount! In exchange, I provide you with downloadable access to my complete catalog, including all of my commercially released albums, videos, outtakes, alternate versions, unreleased tracks, demos, works-in-progress, live radio performances & interviews, rarities, out-of-print albums from previous bands (including Chaingang, Politics or Pontiacs, Nitpickers & Trophy Husbands), concert posters, short stories, lyric sheets, photographs and much, much more!
As new work is created, and as old work is unearthed, I'm adding it to the site. Blogs about the projects, reports & demos of works-in-progress, and other windows into the creative process are regularly provided, as well as news about occasional “Patron-only” events.
I’ve had a blast assembling this material - describing the inspirations & ideas behind the songs, airing the dirty laundry about the bands, and revealing all of the secrets, stories and studio tricks I can remember. It’s been, for me, the creation of my own “behind the music career retrospective & autobiography” and I hope you enjoy perusing it, as much as I've enjoy living it.
Thanks, welcome aboard, and check back often for updates & new material!
Dave
About the Band / Bio
"One of the Southwest's most original and authentic Country voices."
Singer, songwriter, producer, bandleader and recording & performing artist Dave Insley was born in Kansas, raised in Arizona and resides currently in Austin, Texas.
Writing for the Wall Street Journal, former Downbeat editor Nat Hentoff says Insley “immediately held my attention not by showboating, but through naturally flowing rhythms and stories of everyday life and loss, told in a warm, unhurried and sometimes wry voice of experience.” The Austin Chronicle’s Jim Caligiuri says Insley “combines the best of the Bakersfield sound & two steppin’ beats, with his own desert-bent sense of humor, leading him to a singular place somewhere between Dwight Yoakam and Dave Alvin,” and Soundstage's David Cantor calls Insley’s music “Zen Country,” and credits Insley for “leaving melodramatic self-indulgence out of the picture” for a sound that’s “just plain well done.”
Dave‘s album Here With You Tonight debuted at # 1 on the Freeform American Roots chart, where it remained for 8 weeks. The disc was one of 2006’s ‘”Top Ten Local Releases“, according to the Austin American Statesman. Insley‘s previous CD, Call Me Lonesome made the top 20 on the Americana radio chart, and the “Top 25 Albums of All-Time by Arizona artists,” according to the Valley Tribune. In 2005 Dave was named “Arizona's Best Songwriter,” by the Arizona Republic. Dave relocated to Austin, Texas in 2006, and his most recent release is West Texas Wine.
